A concentrated base for raising pH. It gets very hot while dissolving, so make it slowly.

Steps
- Put about 60% of the final volume of water in a plastic beaker standing in ice water.
- Add the pellets a little at a time while stirring (it becomes very hot).
- When cool, bring to the final volume.
- Store in a plastic bottle at room temperature (no sterilisation needed).

- Concentrated NaOH etches glass and seizes glass stoppers — use plastic bottles.
- It absorbs CO₂ from the air — keep the cap tight.
⚠ Safety Highly corrosive — wear goggles and gloves and add pellets slowly to avoid spattering.
