1 M KCl recipe
A stock for adding potassium to PCR buffers, cell buffers and electrophysiology solutions.
🧮 Volume calculator
| Component | Amount | Final concentration (1X) |
|---|---|---|
| KCl | 7.455 g | 1 M |
| Water (distilled) | to final volume |
Steps
- Dissolve in about 80% of the final volume of water.
- Bring to the final volume with water.
- Autoclave (121 °C, 20 min) and store at room temperature.
Good to know
- For 2 M or 3 M, scale the amount accordingly (saturation ≈ 4.6 M at 20 °C).
FAQ
Can I use NaCl instead of KCl?
No — PCR buffers and intracellular-type solutions specifically need potassium.
This is a widely used standard composition. Amounts depend on the hydrate form and purity of your reagents — check the formula weight (FW) on the bottle and follow your institution's safety rules and the manufacturers' instructions.
